Our client is a major North American supplier to the residential, commercial, and infrastructure construction project sector

The Opportunity

The Construction Solutions Director is a newly-created role reporting to the Vice President, Marketing for Western Canada. The primary function of the position will be: proactively promoting the Company’s solutions/systems/products in Western Canada; prescriptive selling activities prior to the tender closing and after the project is awarded to assist in securing additional sales; and coordinating the Company’s prescriptive selling activities across all customer segments and product lines in Western Canada. The Construction Solutions Director will be working closely with Architects, Engineers, and Urban Planners to educate, supply specifications, and affect construction process selection to incorporate the utilization of the Company’s products.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Identify key prescription / specification / design stakeholders, both locally and nationally within Western Canada
  • Define the criteria for segmentation of prescribers / specifiers / designers (i.e. construction market segment, typical project size, design philosophy, innovation profile etc.)
  • Help build the strategic plan for prescriptive selling initiatives and execute and track all prescriptive selling activities
  • Moderate discussions and brown bag lunches with groups of engineers, architects and specifiers to educate on Company’s solutions / products
  • Develop better engineered solutions which incorporate the use of Company’s innovative range of products/solutions with the goal of making things easier for the design community
  • Nurture the innovation pipe with new ideas based on market trends and specifier needs
  • Understand fully the role of sustainable construction solutions and whole life energy usage
  • Identify opportunities across all customer segments in support of Extra Mile initiative
  • Develop strong relationships with design community in Western Canada
  • Coach and develop a team of prescriptive sellers
  • Provide regular activity reports
  • High level of interaction across the organization but in particular with marketing and sales

The Individual

The desired candidate profile will include the following skills, experience, credentials and personal attributes:

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education (Degree/Diploma) in Engineering (Civil or Structural), Architecture, Construction Science
  • Minimum of ten years of experience, with some experience in structural design, ideally with expertise in different segments (residential, industrial, infrastructure) and building systems
  • Some field construction experience is highly desirable
  • LEED certification, Sales/Marketing and project management experience would be an asset

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Proven influencing skills and demonstrated ability to build relationships
  • Strong computer skills; prepared to use subscription-based specification tools
