Vice President, Business Development

The Company

Our client is a leading provider of integrated gathering and processing services for natural gas in Western Canada. This energy enterprise is experiencing a period of strong, strategic growth in terms of increased activity levels as related to commercial agreements and several major projects underway and under discussion including new facilities and infrastructure construction and expansion.

The Opportunity

Our client has retained our Firm to identify an experienced, senior-level energy and business professional to join their organization in the high-impact role of Vice President, Business Development. This Calgary-based position is responsible for all business development activities related to the company’s processing facilities. The Vice President, Business Development will focus on the on-going development of a portfolio of business opportunities which will be evaluated, rationalized, prioritized and executed upon. This senior executive will also provide leadership and coaching to the members of the Business Development team which also includes all joint venture activities.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Manage the Business Development group
  • Responsibility for maximizing the commercial value of company operated and non-operated assets
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with joint venture partners to achieve timely support for company and non-operated projects, activities and strategies
  • Secure appropriate facility access and guide implementation of commercial terms for development activities
  • Manage the relationship between internal and external stakeholders regarding joint venture matters
  • Attract third party production
  • Steward the drafting, execution and application of joint venture agreements including Construction Ownership and Operation Agreements
  • Understand profitability of existing joint venture arrangements
  • Economic modeling of large projects and asset acquisitions
  • Financial modeling of company’s base business and incremental business opportunities (M&A, large projects, optimization)
  • Lead due diligence teams for asset and company acquisitions

The Individual

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, experience and personal attributes:

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the Energy industry in roles of increasing scope and responsibility
  • A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the complexities of the Midstream and Gas Processing industry
  • Experience with joint venture agreements, contracts and accounting principles as related to the midstream industry
  • A strong history of building and sustaining business relationships with diverse industry contacts
  • Track record of successfully negotiating commercial agreements
  • A strong commercial focus including experience with M&A and economic modeling
  • Solid project management and negotiation skills
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills including performance management, mentoring and coaching of junior professionals
  • A consummate team player with naturally collaborative interactive style
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
