Manager, Corporate Treasury and Planning

Our client is a well-established and very successful energy services company providing a variety of products and services to North American and international customers.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Manager-Corporate Treasury and Planning is accountable for; daily cash management, financing initiatives & banking relationships, maintenance and control of the consolidated forecast model, financial evaluation of strategic growth opportunities, assisting with corporate accounting and maintaining the system of internal controls, participating as a member of the Retirement Benefits Committee and supervising, leading and mentoring the Corporate Treasury and Planning groups.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

Daily Cash/Treasury Management

  • Assist with quarterly certification of compliance with banking covenants
  • Assist in setting of all bank related control policies (authority limits, foreign exchange management)
  • Maintain EFT and cheque systems
  • Monitor syndicate facility balances and arrange any transfers to fund levels to maintain covenant compliance
  • Review and approve all biweekly & weekly cash settlement processes, intercompany entries
  • Review and approve all bank reconciliations and vouchers
  • Provide BU’s with recommendations to improve cash related results (i.e. working capital management)

Internal Controls

  • Ensure the BU follows the approved internal control processes through policies and procedures including any local country regulations related to cash
  • Provide exemplary leadership direction and governance for internal control environment
  • Provide input and collaborate with key business partners in the improvement/amendments to internal control processes
  • Maintain and Control Consolidated Corporate Forecast Model
  • Assist CFO and senior management with the annual budgeting & Quarterly Business Review process
  • Review, maintain and communicate bank covenant risks and financial performance (scenario analysis and stress testing of cash forecasts)
  • Review and adjust forecasts weekly for new information and actualize results monthly
  • Deliver qualitative financial analysis focusing on the interpretation of results and trends to assist in the overall business decision making process
  • Report monthly and quarterly financial performance, and alerts on revenue/earnings impacting future budget/forecasts
  • Identify changes in BU financial assumptions and advise accordingly
  • Research and reports on factors influencing business performance
  • Assist with analyzing competitors and local market trends
  • Conduct reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities
  • Collaborate in the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for processing transactions
  • Develop and interpret BU financial information and communicate it to the BU management
  • Prepare and present forecast results summary for Executive Board
  • Capital forecasting

Financial Evaluation of Strategic Growth Opportunities

  • Assist CFO with strategic business analysis related to investment opportunities
  • Provide Executive Board with sensitivity analysis related to potential investments relative to status quo
  • Assist with integration planning relative to successful investments
  • Complete special projects, assignments and other duties as required

Treasury and Planning Group Leadership

  • Direct and coordinate the overall activities of team members in accordance with policies established by the Executive Committee including meeting deadlines
  • Manage Treasury and Planning team with optimal performance and structure
  • Encourage improvements in the processes from team members
  • Align training through on the job, internal or external courses
  • Communicate effectively with management, team members, clients and customers in the planning, coordination and execution of services and initiatives including serving as a liaison between BU’s, and other Corporate Services departments
  • Collaborate with business partners in the planning and administration of human resource related practices including, on boarding, direct and indirect compensation (e.g. salary and benefits) and performance management
  • Ensure cross training and provide coverage for other team members as required

The Individual

The desired candidate profile will include the following skills, experience, credentials and personal attributes:

  • Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in an Accounting Management or Senior Accounting role
  • Ten plus years post designation financial reporting experience or applicable experience
  • Completion of secondary school, experience or a combination of education and experience
  • Completion of college or other courses certified by the CGA, CMA, CA, Canadian Bookkeepers Association and/or other Federally or State approved institutions and regulatory bodies or a combination of education and experience
  • Continuing educational development in the Accounting/Treasury field
  • Proven knowledge in business and financial management
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing teams and major projects or initiatives
  • Established commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
  • Strong leadership skills that include planning, organization, team building, influencing, problem solving, judgment skills and ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and with all levels within and outside of the organization
  • Ability to solve special problems or challenges related to field or equivalent area
  • Knowledge of regulatory and other compliance implications in a field related to the BU and/or Service Line
