Director, Supply Management

The Company 

Our client is a regional market leader for crude oil refining and marketing.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director, Supply Management will support cost effective operational efficiency by ensuring the most competitive pricing, the highest level of security of supply, and access to best-in-class Supply Chain processes.  This role calls for a dynamic, experienced, strategic leader who is an outstanding performer, a self-starter and a team player with a proven track record in all aspects of Supply Chain operations, planning and management.  The position will lead and manage key supply management functions including: strategic sourcing, contract management, materials management, category management and performance management.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Defines strategy and annual improvement plans including economic targets.
  • Establishes policies and procedures and fosters compliance.
  • Provides management oversight and coordination of sourcing and procurement activities including supplier relations and performance, contract negotiations, spend management and warehouse operations.
  • Provides insight to the executive team by providing performance reporting and analysis (KPIs, target and variance analysis and leading practices).
  • Evaluate market offering and monitors potential suppliers, to develop alternative supply sources where required or deemed more efficient.
  • Drives continuous improvement and scalability of procurement operations.
  • Maintain and communicate professional expertise and awareness of emerging trends and issues, while demonstrating leadership and contributing to the profession.
  • Leads capability development and delivers results. 

The Individual

The desired candidate profile will include the following skills, experience, credentials and personal attributes:

  • Completion of post-secondary education along with Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation or other similar Supply Chain designation required.
  • MBA preferred; exposure to large-scale capital project environments would be an asset.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience, during which the successful candidate will have demonstrated success in a number of cross-functional roles across the integrated supply chain including: planning, sourcing, contracts and inventory management in an industrial environment.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage in a matrix organization with the ability to influence, up, down, and across the organization as well as with external relationships.
  • Strong business acumen along with excellent negotiation skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to drive change and achieve on-going business efficiencies and value enhancements through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proven track record in delivering results through strong execution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Significant problem solving, decision making, multi-tasking abilities along with demonstrated experience in managing multiple priorities and meeting many deadlines in a fast-paced and challenging work environment is required.
